M-CHAT

The Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M-CHAT)is a validated developmental screening tool for toddlers between 16 and 30 months of age. It is designed to identify children who may benefit from a more thorough developmental and autism evaluation.

EARLY START DENVER MODEL

It is a comprehensive behavior-oriented early intervention approach for children with autism, ages 12 to 48 months. This model incorporates intensive teaching practices drawn from applied behavior analysis (ABA) and a developmental curriculum which defines the skills to be taught at any given time and a set of teaching procedures used to deliver this content.

BEHAVIOR STRATEGIES FOR CHILDREN ON AUTISM SPECTRUM

Here are some common characteristics of children with autism to help you better understand the root of their behavior. Some of the characteristics below can also be common in very young children, or individuals with developmental or emotional disabilities. Keep in mind that all children with autism are different. Some may have only a few of the characteristics below, while others may have many.

Side-Note: *All children have exceptional strengths as well. It is extremely important to focus on these strengths, let the child know how proud you are of his efforts, and incorporate strengths into play and learning.

 

APPLY FOR DISABILITY BENEFITS

You will need to complete an Application for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and a Child Disability Report. The report collects information about the child’s disabling condition and how it affects his/her ability to function.
