Recent statistics revealed that 50% of autism children may never speak. As such alternative methods for communication must be introduced early to provide the most substantial adaptation of alternative communication methods. There are several methods on the market, however one of the most popular and proven methods is Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS). Developed in 1985 it’s an augmented communication system that uses pictures and Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) methods to teach children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). These pictures are used to help children learn colors, numbers and specific words. PECS can be used to help children form sentences, regulate behavior and learn scheduled activities. Below you will find a sample activity schedule that can assist in developing one for your child based upon their age and specific needs.
